1.  Simplify the equation
[tex]-2(w+10)=6w+12 [/tex] ====>[tex]-2w-20=6w+12[/tex]

2.   Subtract 6w from both sides.  
[tex]-2w-20-6w=6w+12-6w[/tex] ====> [tex]-8w-20=12[/tex]

3.  Add 20 to both sides.
[tex]-8w-20+20=12+20[/tex] ====> [tex]-8w=32[/tex]

4. Divide both sides by -8
[tex] \frac{-8w}{-8}= \frac{32}{-8} [/tex] ====>[tex]w=-4[/tex]
